  • Vanilla (Tahiti and Bourbon)

Vanilla is a spice that is obtained from the fermented capsule fruits (also called pods) of an orchid. The main origin of Bourbon vanilla (Vanilla planifolia) is Madagascar, whereas Tahiti vanilla (Vanilla tahitensis) is grown on the Pacific Islands.

The taste of Bourbon and Tahiti differs as follows:
    - Bourbon vanilla contains the largest proportion of vanillin among vanilla beans and therefore tastes very strongly of vanilla.
    - Tahitian vanilla contains less pure vanillin, the higher proportion of aromatic substances give Tahitian vanilla a larger and more floral aroma.
