Fruit that contains a residual moisture content of approximately 20% after drying is referred to as dried fruit.
There are various manufacturing processes for this. But all of them ensure that the fruit is preserved.
The various drying processes remove moisture and the sugar content in the fruit increases. This makes the fruit more aromatic and sweeter. Dried fruits are a popular snack as a topping in muesli or simply as a snack.
In contrast to the time when they were eaten to fortify vitamins, dried fruits are more popular and more varied in terms of offerings and varieties.
Back then it was only raisins, dates and figs that were dried. Today it also includes apples, pears and plums or even tropical fruits such as bananas, mangoes, pineapples and many more.
Since the fruits are only harvested for drying when they are at their best ripeness, they are very rich in vitamins and minerals.
