    History of La Perruche

At the end of the 18th century France was the leading sugar trader in Europe and the port of Nantes played an important role in the processing of sugar cane from the islands.
La Perruche is the result of a family saga from Nantes: The delicious secret recipe was invented in 1828 in the Confiserie by Andre Cosse. In 1856 two Cosse sons took up the idea and founded a refinery in Nantes. They continued to make the traditional sugar with the authentic flavors and scents of the tropical islands, without changing the fathers original recipe.
The unique taste of her sugar earned her several medals at the Paris Worlds Fair in 1889, the year that was famed for the construction of the Eiffel Tower. This exceptional recognition led to the brand name A la Perruche the following year.
