The spirit of timelessness reigns on Van Volxem.
We believe that many things should be done differently, but there are also many things that cannot be done better than what has been done on our steep slopes for thousands of years. We believe in authentic wines - in handcrafted wines - prepared with wild yeasts and without fining agents.
Our vision is to give Saar wines back the excellent reputation they enjoyed internationally around 1900 by returning to craft traditions.
With knowledge, trust, time for the essentials and patience, we create fascinating creations of inestimable value. Experience our Saar wines from large locations and share our passion for wine with us.
When producing the wines, we follow the traditions of our ancestors and the historical natural wine idea. We feel committed to this legacy of sustainable wine production.
The Van Volxem winery had reached a size that made it necessary to move out of the center of Wiltingen in order to relieve the burden on the tranquil town center. Our new factory was built on the site of a former winery with the aim of maximum ecological and social sustainability. Thanks to the focus of the new building on the optimization of all work processes, the use of gravity in grape processing, intelligent resource management and environmentally friendly energy generation, all production processes were sustainably improved.

    sustainability

Consistently following the sustainability approach, attention is paid to the utmost conservation of natural resources in all areas of production. The heat is generated by a wood chip heating system, which is fed with wood chips from the house and from nearby sawmills. In addition, the latest refrigeration and air conditioning technology helps save energy.
A photovoltaic system, which is discreetly located on the main roof and cannot be seen from the outside, provides for the self-generation of electricity. Our customers can also charge their electric cars for free in our parking lot.
The water masses obtained on the large roof areas are collected in a pond with natural vegetation. Dry stone walls, hedges and slate beds with drought-resistant planting contribute to the harmonious integration into the surrounding natural and cultural landscape.
As a top-quality VDP winery, we are committed to the environmentally friendly management of our sites, the cultivation of predominantly regional grape varieties and the reduction of yields.
