Christmas biscuits honey cake Basel style (treats), Peters
This traditional gingerbread-like pastry (also called Basel treats) is made with wheat flour, lots of honey, candied fruit and many different nuts such as hazelnuts and almonds. The flat-baked dough is cut into small rectangular pieces (the treats) while still warm and then brushed over with icing sugar. Coated with the finest dark chocolate, it gets the subtle, tart contrast to the sweet glaze. This delicious Christmas pastry was named after the original place of manufacture, the city of Basel.
