As a tribute to the hybrid style of these whiskies, the bottlings bear the names of mythical figures. The Unicorn`s Tale is an enigmatic single malt. It combines the tropical sweetness of whisky matured in Malmsey and Madeira casks with the spicy, smoky notes typical of Ardbeg. This results in a fruity, aromatic, and smoky creation. This bottling follows the first release in Ardbeg`s new series: The Harpy`s Tale, Ardbeg`s first whisky matured in Sauternes casks. Dr. Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg`s Director of Whisky Creation, says: `We like to experiment with how we can add new dimensions to our whiskies through the balance of smoke and aroma. Our decision to mature Ardbeg in exceptional cask types laid the foundation for sweet and smoky `hybrids` - and the Anthology Collection was born. The Unicorn`s Tale is the second release in the series, and at 14 years old, it may seem sweet, but its smokiness is quite pronounced. On the nose: Rich, sweet, aromatic, and fruity - aromas of banana bread and sponge pudding fill the senses. Syrupy notes transform into a distinctive scent of burning cedarwood. A splash of water releases a wealth of tropical fruits.` Eucalyptus oil mingles with mild, aromatic smoke. On the palate: Lime and sweet peaches gallop across the tongue. Robust flavors of smoked fruit and baked bread give way to antiseptic lozenges, creosote tar, and anise. Barley malt notes combine with nutmeg and peat smoke.
