Single Malt Whiskey Ardbeg Anthology Harpy`s Tale 13 years, 46% vol., Islay
This whisky is the first in a three-part series (Anthology = literary collection). Each Ardbeg in the Anthology series unites two beings within it, just like the mythical creatures of Greek legend. `The Harpy`, a legendary animal from ancient mythology, half-human, half-bird, bears a striking resemblance to this whisky, which is elusive by nature and complex in style. A whisky matured for 13 years in two types of casks, then married: 1: Sauternes casks (rare and sought-after, imparting sweetness), and the first Ardbeg to be matured in Sauternes casks. 2: Ex-bourbon (classic Ardbeg smokiness). Nose: Pronouncedly oily, with notes of extra virgin olive oil, briar root, aromatic herbs such as coriander and sage, and a hint of smoked lemon zest. A splash of water releases further oiliness, like linseed oil, with a slight waxiness and a hint of creme brulee. Palate: A soft, oily texture with a rich, sweet-smoky flavor. Notes of oakmoss, molasses, and aniseed candy with a lovely, sweet-woody balsamic note, followed by aromas of smoked apricots and eucalyptus oil. The finish is long, sweet-smoky, with a touch of cumin, cardamom, and a hint of coconut.
