Spice garden arrowroot starch
Arrowroot starch is extracted from the roots of tropical Maranta plants. Various colored varieties from the same plant family are popular as ornamental plants. Arrowroot starch has a high gelling power and is tasteless and non-clouding. Therefore, it is an ideal thickening agent for sauces and clear soups and can be used instead of regular wheat flour to make delicate pastries. Before adding it to heated sauces, the arrowroot starch should be dissolved in a cold liquid.
