Arroz Bomba, short grain rice, smoked, Ebro Delta / Spain
The Bomba rice variety is a short-grain rice characterized by its good flavor absorption, making it ideal for rice dishes such as paella. Rice has been cultivated in Spain since Arab rule in the 8th century. The current name is derived from the Arabic al-ruzz. In the Ebro Delta region, the soil, climate, and special irrigation systems provide ideal conditions for rice cultivation, which has steadily developed and expanded here since the 17th century. As a traditional growing region, the Ebro Delta is considered the area of origin for varieties such as Bomba. Rice from this region is monitored according to cultivation and quality criteria and protected in marketing with the Arroz del Delta del Ebro designation of origin.
