Pomegranates are cultivated in Western and Central Asia, northern India and the Mediterranean region. Their refreshingly sweet and sour flesh envelops individual seeds. Pomegranate seeds are used in vegetable and legume dishes in northern India and in meat dishes in Mongolian cuisine. The dried seeds with pulp can be used as an alternative to raisins, to color rice, for chutneys, vegetable curries or simply eaten as a snack between meals.
