2019 Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling GG, dry, 13% vol., Dr. Loosen
Urziger Wurzgarten Unterst Pichter Riesling GG RESERVE Old Vines Dry The original Urziger Wurzgarten is the only vineyard site on the Middle Mosel that is not dominated by slate. The soil is called Rotliegendes, a weathered conglomerate of volcanic origin. As the name suggests, the aromas here are very different from those in the slate-dominated vineyards with their stone fruit aromas. They are often spicy, herbal, and slightly earthy. The wines are full-bodied, although the acidity is often somewhat lower due to the special soil. The ungrafted vines from which Dr. Loosen produces this great Riesling are up to 120 years old. They are located on a parcel called `Unterst Pichter`, which rises steeply directly behind the village in the heart of the Wurzgarten.
