This Nepalese pepper is harvested from small trees of the Zanthoxylum armatum species that grow wild in the Mahabharat mountain range. With its fresh, citrusy notes, it`s easy to see why some call it grapefruit pepper. This small berry is used in all southern Nepalese dishes of the Terai lowland cuisine. Here, at the birthplace of Buddha, amidst the Tharu villages with their thatched mud huts, these thorny shrubs unfold their treasures at an altitude of 2,000 meters.
