This tamarind product is pasty. Tamarind belongs to the carob family and is originally an African spice that now also plays an important role in the cuisines of other continents. The sour and fruity taste of tamarind goes well with the spiciness of chilies and gives many South Indian dishes their characteristic hot and sour taste and also their dark color. In India, tamarind is usually combined with meat or legumes. Worcestershire sauce also contains tamarind.
