Cloves are the dried flower buds of the clove tree. They look like small nails, are aromatic, burning-hot in the taste and have an intense fragrance. Ground they are used as a spicy ingredient for sausages, pies, desserts or for pickled fruits in alcohol and for mulled wine. Cloves are part of the classic gingerbread spice and many Arabic and Indian spice blends, such as Garam Masala, Curry and Raz el Hanout.
