The Datterino tomato originates from Sicily. These very small, elongated, deep red, glossy tomatoes resemble small dates in shape, hence the name `date tomato.` However, the true specialty of the Datterino tomato lies in its exciting flavor profile and pronounced sweetness. It can reach a significantly higher level of sweetness than conventional tomato varieties. To further enhance this characteristic, Peter van Nahmen, together with the passionate spice miller Ingo Holland, developed the addition of a small amount of salt. They chose genuine `Sylt Sea Salt,` sourced from the saltworks of Alexandro Pape. Black Kerala pepper from Ingo Holland, Altes Gewurzamt, provides a well-rounded flavor experience and a subtle spiciness.
