La Madre - Vermouth, red, 15% vol., Spain
On the nose, delicate citrus notes and orange peel, followed by dark fruits, and on the palate, subtle hints of vermouth, lavender, and rosemary. Very long, intense, and persistent, medium sweet, with blood orange and a subtle bitterness in the finish. Vermouth is making a big comeback, especially in the trendy bars of Barcelona. It`s no wonder, then, that La Madre vermouth, reminiscent of cherry, citrus peel, and black berries, comes from the Terra Alta region, not too far from Barcelona. It`s a small start-up; production quantities are still very small, but the love of nature and wine, the sense of freedom and lifestyle that the vermouth craze seems to bring, is combined in this product with the passion of producer Josep Castillo. More than 24 herbs are macerated, and their aromas are extracted with alcohol. The macerate is filtered and aged in wooden barrels. The herbal mixture is blended with wine and fortified with alcohol.
