The Leonardi family has also cultivated the Campi Macri estate for four generations and personally participates in the grape harvest. Surrounded by nine hectares of vineyards, the Leonardi family`s approximately 300-year-old estate lies 16 kilometers southwest of Modena. Since 1871, the Leonardi family has specialized in the production of balsamic vinegar there. The estate is located in the Campi Macri, a region renowned for its fertility even in Roman times. Their property houses many historical artifacts, such as old barrels bearing the seal of Matilda of Canossa from the 12th century. Today, Giovanni Leonardi and his son Francesco, representing the fourth generation, manage the estate and the vinegar cellar. Between September and October, when sugar and acidity are perfectly balanced, the Lambrusco and Trebbiano grapes are harvested by hand. Lambrusco has a robust, spicy character, while Trebbiano contributes sweet, delicate aromas.
