Styrian pumpkin seed oil has been recognized by the EU as a regional specialty and registered as a protected trademark. Only the first pressing of exclusively Styrian pumpkin seeds can be called this way. You can recognize good pumpkin seed oil by its color reflections: when viewed from above it appears red and green when viewed through. Gray-brown colors indicate inferior kernels that were roasted at high temperatures, stored for too long or too warm, or questionable additives. Pumpkin seed oil is pressed from the hand-picked, dried kernels.
