Violet mustard, Moutarde Violette
Purple mustard from the Denoix family of Brive-la-Gaillarde in the Perigord region (since 1839). The family has revived a historic recipe from the Middle Ages. It was the favorite mustard of Pope Clement VI. Since then, it has also been affectionately called `the mustard of the popes` because these mustard stains were not noticeable on the popes` purple robes. It is a very fine, mild mustard made with grape mustard, reminiscent of a delicate sauce. In the Perigord region, it is often served in restaurants as a dip for steaks.
