    History and philosophy

The Winery Prince of Hesse was founded by the family in 1957. At that time, Johannisberg in the Rheingau, which has been famous for world-class white wines for centuries, fell. The Riesling proves here, exactly at the 50th degree of latitude, that there is no better place for him in the world. This old cultural landscape on the Rhine can be experienced in a wonderful way.

Situated on the gentle foothills of the Taunus, the locations in and around Johannisberg are among the best in the Rheingau. To look after this treasure and to give the quality of the soil an expression in our wines is a pleasure to us every year. We attach great importance to this work. The wages are delicious grapes, which we make in our domain according to all the rules of art to fine and long-lasting wines.

If you want to be open-minded and create new things, you should feel connected to the foundations of tradition. Where, if not in the Rheingau, with its more than 1000-year history of winegrowing, progress and continuity form a tasteful unity? For the Winery Prince of Hesse it is the basic understanding of his work to combine both aspects in his wines. For example, an impressive series of first-class and elaborately cultivated double-head drums made of fine wood belongs to our technical periphery in the wine cellar as well as a phalanx of stainless steel tanks in various sizes for the precise vinification. The use of traditional and state-of-the-art fermentation and storage media gives us the opportunity to present the treasures of our unique portfolio in a stylistic, multi-faceted manner.

    The locations of the vineyards

The importance of our vineyard locations was documented early on: The precise description of the Rheingau location classification of 1885 referred to the quality of the soil and the net property tax revenue of the various locations. During this time, the Rheingau Riesling rose to become a coveted wine, for which wine lovers in Germany and internationally paid top prices. That is also today the goal of all of us. In this way, we combine the first-class creditworthiness of our vineyards with a passion for quality in every respect.
So that the Riesling from the Rheingau remains unmistakable
